Let’s get something straight before we get too far down the road. If you are looking for something easy, quick and painless—online marketing is NOT for you. If you want to make easy money online—Not gonna happen! Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of people across the globe who make very easy money online, but it is because they have put in TONS of work and have learned through a lot of trial and error. The naughty little secret of the internet is that it is the most vast realm of opportunity that the world has ever seen and anyone can tap into it—but it requires hard work, a willingness to learn, patience and consistency.
Make It Happen
The first question you must ask yourself is, are you willing to work hard? Are you willing to be consistent? Are you open to learning new concepts? If you answer yes to any of these, then online marketing might indeed be a fantastic opportunity for you. The opportunity is limitless and its market share continues to grow at a rapid pace.
I’ve discussed previously the multitude of schemes, scams and systems that advertise making insane amounts of money in only 1 hour per day. I have also made some recommendations of platforms that help new internet marketers truly build a sustainable online business the right way! A couple of these platforms, The Conversion Pros and Wealthy Affiliate, are excellent and comprehensive in nature. Although, they approach building an online business differently, they both are effective, efficient and cost-effective. You can check out my review of both for more in-depth information.
Is It Worth Reading The Books?
Something I wanted to tackle today is whether or not it is realistic to learn how to build an online business by reading one or more of the many online marketing books and guides. There is no shortage of gurus peddling their books, e-books and systems—but can you actually build a business with them? The short answer to that question is, Yes! But truthfully, the answer is far more nuanced than a simple yes and no.
First, let’s examine why someone would choose to learn about this subject from a book, versus all of the other options out there. I believe that the most popular reason to gravitate towards book training in this area is simply a matter of cost. You can get online marketing books for as little as free and up so many people see this as an obvious starting point. At the same time, at the outset of trying to understand how to build an online business—it is not always apparent just how deep the well of educational resources is.
Read About It Or Do It?
Conceptually, there is nothing wrong with attempting to train yourself in online marketing from a book. But fundamentally, the nature of building an online business and the concepts and knowledge that is necessary to draw upon stems from a great deal of trial, error and actual implementation. It is far more difficult to understand the proper sequence and comprehend the structure of direction because of how detailed some of your tasks can and will be. I, for one, would have a very difficult time learning all that is needed from a book. In addition, without the benefit of community support and/or mentor guidance, the task is even more daunting.
Most successful online marketers will tell you that one of the most beneficial aspects of their development has been either a mentor or a support community that they can bounce ideas off of. The ability to share with others and learn from their successes and failures is an important part of the learning process as it pertains to online marketing. Because it is still a relatively new industry and because technology is always changing, online marketing is more about doing, than it is about reading. It is more conducive to video, screenshots and other visual teaching aides than merely text.
What I will say though, is that online marketing books are a great starting point for someone who isn’t quite ready to jump into the deep end of the pool. They can help you understand terminology, concepts and other aspects of the industry. They can help give an overview of why and what online marketing is. Online marketing books are a great tool to ad to your tool belt, but they need to be used in conjunction with other resources.
A secondary issue with books is that they cannot be continually updated. Many books are out of date and obsolete by the time they are printed. In an arena as cutting edge as online marketing, you need the most up to date info possible. Just make sure that any books.
Everyone Has An Opportunity
The beauty of online marketing is that it is somewhat like the wild west, because there is so much opportunity and very few laws to keep things in line. Continual learning is the only true way to get a leg up on the competition. Online marketing books will help you along your way, but you will need a far more comprehensive strategy if you want to make your online marketing business a success. An investment in your business is an investment in yourself so don’t be scared to invest in a comprehensive system to really help you build from the ground up.
Online marketing is no easy road and you would be wise to beef up with as many tools as possible. But the real key to success is hard work and persistence. Just stick with it and keep learning and you will eventually build your online business. For some it happens sooner than others, but the opportunity is there for anyone.
